Yasmeen Bond is a young London-based artist. Having studied art, she then went on to receive an FDA in Knitwear from the London College of Fashion. Currently combining her artistic career with one in set design, Bond is represented by the Young Artist Partnership. The idea for her mounted butterflies stemmed from her research into Victorian crafts and also taxidermy. Bond writes of her work on butterflies: ‘The scattered and dispersed butterflies breaking off and flying away represents the short life cycle of the butterfly. The purpose of the life of every butterfly is to set everything that was once known aside as a caterpillar and to embrace an entire new way of life as a butterfly, something we should follow, to accept changes and transitions in our own lives as casually as the butterfly does’.
